Praying for the Generations

The Lord has really sharpened the burden on my heart for young people during this season of fasting and prayer. I believe with all of my heart that every single believer has a Kingdom purpose, which only he or she can fulfill in the earth. It is the reason why we were born. Will this generation of young people discover their destinies in their early years? Will they begin the journey into their assignments sooner than later? I believe we as parents, pastors, elders, and spiritual fathers and mothers can have a tremendous influence on an early awakening.

The Lord gave me this message: “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.  Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”  “O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you!  I’m too young!” The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.” – Jeremiah 1:4-7 (NLT)

God is no respecter of persons. Or of age or gender. Consider the following men and women who are called great in the Bible…

Joseph was 17 when he was sold by his brothers into slavery, and began his journey to become the overseer of Egypt who saved the twelve tribes of Israel.

King David was 17 when he defeated the giant Goliath.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are thought to have been between 10-16 years old when they were cast into the fiery furnace after refusing to bow before the wicked king.

Josiah was 8 when he became king of Israel, returned the nation to its religious heritage, and initiated a restoration of the temple during his reign.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, is believed to have been no more than 14 when she conceived the Messiah through the Holy Spirit.

A young boy gave Jesus his lunch of loaves and fishes, and over 5,000 people were miraculously fed by the Lord.

God deposits within each of us a destiny and a calling before we even enter the world. Our young people carry that God seed within them. His dream for them can begin to sprout at any time, perhaps even a very young age. Pray for our children and our youth during Global Days of Prayer. Call forth the Kingdom to manifest in them, and put a hedge about them against the evil one, in Jesus’ name! God bless them and keep them all!
