HOUSE OF PRAYER

We are a community committed to building the Church we believe Jesus will one day return for. We strive to not be a people who pray out of crisis or convenience, but to make prayer the center of everything we do. It is our greatest privilege to know and experience God through His Presence as we minister to Him.

What is a House of Prayer?

In the Bible, Jesus quoted Isaiah 56:7 by saying, “His house would be a house of prayer.” As Jesus stood outside the temple two thousand years ago, He shared His heart’s desire for His future Church. It is to be a place where God and man commune, where heaven and earth meet, where people draw near, encounter, seek, and experience the presence of God above all other things.

We were created for Him and His presence. It changes and empowers us to change the world around us. These truths of the scripture compel us to be a house of prayer church, experiencing God corporately as a foundational activity.

SEE OUR CURRENT PRAYER SCHEDULE

While in the prayer room, feel free to join in with the corporate worship and prayer, read your Bible, write in your journal, or engage in private prayer. You may sit, stand, or pace up and down the aisles. Whatever you do, we ask that you do it in a manner that honors and serves the other people in the room.

We are always looking for people to come and join in on what God is doing in the House of Prayer. If you’re interested in joining a team, or just getting more info, fill out the form below and someone will reach out to you!

A LIFESTYLE OF
FASTING

Here at The Gathering Church we believe in a lifestyle of fasting. Fasting is exchanging the consumption of the pleasures of this world for the pleasures of God. We choose God; we choose to feed our spirit so that our flesh will submit; we choose the eternal over the temporal. If you have never fasted before, pray, seek the Lord and His Word, and ask Holy Spirit to lead you in the decision.

Who can fast?

Fasting is Christianity 101. Fasting is not only for the radical. It is not only for the extremist. It is not only for the religious saint. Fasting is not for the strong. It is not for the solid. It is not for the perfect. Fasting is for the common, weak, frail, ordinary individual who realizes his or her lack and has a desperate need for more of God. Fasting is more than denying ourselves food. It isn’t really about being hungry. While we do get hungry when we fast, fasting is really about experiencing more of God.

There has been a resurgence of fasting in recent decades, as God calls His people to regular fasting as part of a normal Christian lifestyle. We realize, with God’s invitation to fast and pray, we are entering in to one of the most extreme delights of our soul. Say yes to the invitation and enjoy the rewards now and for eternity. Your Bridegroom awaits.

Why to fast?

Fasting reveals the things our hearts and bodies are addicted to. The Lord is the only one who deserves to be first in our lives. We often do not have enough discernment to know what we idolize until we go without and feel our corrupt nature that desires so many other things above God. No matter what kind of fast we choose, The Lord is always refining our hearts more than anything. We must engage in this process in partnership with Holy Spirit, otherwise we are just “going without”. Isaiah 58 lays out the benefits of fasting as we allow God to refine our hearts in the process.
