Christians are Different

All it takes is one look at the news to see that we live in a scary and tumultuous world. The ways of the world are far different and often in opposition to the ways of God. Unfortunately, more and more people, seemingly by the day, are turning to a lifestyle dictated by the ways of the world and reality around us.

But Christians are different...

We are called to strive to be more and more like Jesus in everything that we do. He is our perfect example in everything. Even when doing so clashes with what society says is normal, we are still called to stay steadfast in living a life that is pleasing to God.

We find evidence of this in the Gospel of John. John 17 chronicles Jesus’ prayer before His persecution and death. In it, He says two profound things about our calling to be different. The first is, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of it” (John 17:16). What Jesus is saying is that even though we live in this world at the moment, as children of God, our true citizenship lies in the Kingdom of God.

In the same prayer, Jesus says, “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

(John 17:18). So, here we see that even though our true citizenship lies elsewhere, Jesus has sent us into this world for a purpose. And what is that mission He has given us? To continue His redemptive work and show as many people as possible the unconditional, unwavering love of God.

Christians are different because we are called to live above what the world believes is the standard. We are called to be counter-cultural representatives of God’s Kingdom, showing the world around us what it truly means to live according to God’s design. That lifestyle includes living out the love of Christ so that we can spread it into the hearts of everyone we meet.

How do we do this? By becoming the hands and feet of Christ, meeting the needs of others above our own. Jesus served diligently, often at His own expense, and we are called to do the same. The world around us needs the life-altering power of God’s love more than ever. We have the blessed opportunity to take part in making that happen.

Choose to live life differently. Walk in your calling to be a light to the world, a light reflecting God’s love for all. Keep your eyes ever-focused on God’s eternal Kingdom. Pursue the destiny He has created for YOU, and see how God has designed you to further His Kingdom in the earth showing love and using the authority He has given you to bring Heaven to Earth in your sphere of influence.
